Is your child experiencing academic, behavioral or social difficulty in school? Does your child have a diagnosis from a doctor and you are unsure how to proceed with the school? Are you dissatisfied with answers you are receiving from the school? Not sure what to do?
Special Education Advocacy is here to assist with navigating the educational system for your special needs child. Federal law requires that children who qualify for special education services or a 504 plan be served in the public school system.
A special education advocate helps parents of children with disabilities obtain the education and services for which their children are eligible. Successful advocates get good results for students by working cooperatively and openly with parents and schools. The advocate will try to educate and empower you to become a better advocate for your child.
Advocates work with families to help them understand their child's disability, prioritize concerns, locate private sector evaluators and service providers, assist in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), attend IEP meetings with parents, and serve as a resource for information about the special education process and using it efficiently to obtain an appropriate education for their children.
